Part-2 of the ‘Specifications for Bottles & Jars’ series provides the glass-manufacturing requirements for five important aspects of container quality. These requirements are important as they will ensure glass vessels are able to withstand a range of stresses such as those likely to be encountered on most food and beverage filling-lines.
To successfully travel the distance from the depalletiser to the carton-packer, most glass containers will have to withstand stresses such as ‘impact’, ‘thermal-shock’, and (in many cases) ‘internal-pressure’. The vessels will also require a certain degree of ‘panel-straightness’, and will need to be monitored for ‘capacity’ to reduce the potential for over-filling or under-filling.

Part-3 of the ‘Specifications for Bottles & Jars’ series provides information on two major quality-related defects that have been responsible for numerous product-recalls in recent times. Procedures have been included to ensure the glass-manufacturing plant regularly monitors the glass containers for these subtle defects, to ensure they do not find their way into the final pallets.
A range of other standard tests and their required specifications have also been included to ensure the quality of the melted glass exiting the furnace is of sufficient standard to manufacture bottles and jars for Western customers.
